‘Bloodstream’ is a short series of digital works inspired by blood travelling in our bodies. Sometimes the simplest things can become so mesmerizing.
The pieces are shown in reverse order. From bottom to top, the pieces become more abstract representations of blood flowing. Each piece attempts to highlight something different about blood. The first being it’s reality and constant presence. The second the significance of it’s role. The third being its urgency and complexity. The last (top image) being it’s vibrance, interconnectedness and necessity for life.
I made this series during my first semester transition to college which I struggled with greatly. I think the reality of life and my life ahead of me was beginning to put things in perspective; blood seemed to be a good analogy at the time. Blood keeps you alive, but the sight of blood is often a sign of danger, defeat, death, etc. Blood is confusing, it gives mixed messages. This series sums up my journey throughout my first year at college, from realization of life and the future ahead, to the stresses of life, and to the vibrance and joy of life.
All pieces were made in Procreate on iPad.
